Hoist the colors, mates, and get out to see the latest instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
No spoilers - I promise!
My husband and I went to see Pirates 3 last night and had a blast. Very fun movie, although it starts out quite dark, and it’s hard to keep track of who is betraying whom, and what everyone’s motivations are. When you think you've got it figured out - things change.
Much funnier than the second film, and Johnny Depp delivers is craziest Captain Jack yet (spending too much time in the Davy Jones’ locker will do that to ya, mate).
The special effects are amazing, really mind blowing (as a side note – the big end of the world waterfall was taken from film they shot of Niagara Falls). Costumes and makeup are, once again, outstanding. New musical scores, with just a hint of the old familiar tunes.
We see more depth in the characters of both Elizabeth and Will (I won't go into it here - I promised no spoilers), and Barbossa is as pirate-y (and funny) as ever.
Keith Richards was quite funny, but he probably doesn't have more than 5 minutes of screen time. He looked great, though.
Some reviewers didn't like the moive as a whole (although most seem to agree that it's very entertaining) , but it's not an Oscar-track movie. It's a movie based on a ride from a Disney theme park! Come on - don't take things quite so seriously!
It is long, though - about 2:45, so don't get that jumbo drink.
Be sure to stay through the credits – because there is a very nice epilogue at then end.
Drink up me hearties, yo ho!

Yes-I am a total dork and superfan of the pirates movies. But this one is worth your time and money.

! im
SO excited to see this tho! awesome review HistoryGeek!!!
6I'm a dork too, no worries, doesn't everybody want to be a pirate?
7I have to agree that this was a fabulous movie!! I'm happy they don't go for award winning theatrics with this movie because it would ruin it, but I'm quite happy that they summed it up for the most part with leaving a tiny little room for another one, but not the large hole of an opening like the second one. I really enjoyed this one, it was a fabulous birthday gift because Orlando Bloom is just that damn sexy with water dripping from him and wearing pirate garments.
8I FINALLY saw this movie, better than the 2nd, but a bit of a disappointment. The scenes toward the end where the two ships were fighting in a storm was spectacular. But it was so dark....I hate it when comedies forget they're comedies and start to take themselves too seriously. Funny, but not a happy film, from start to finish.
