Killing Yourself To Live: 85% Of A True Story
by Chuck Klosterman
This book is about Chuck Klosterman, a writer for the magazine Spin. Born and raised in the Mid-West, he takes the job in New York City and during his time there, is sent on an adventure cross country to find out - what is the relationship between celebrity and mortality and why is it that society glamorizes the death of artists? Specifically rock artists? So thus Chuck sets out in an adventure with a rented car he nicknames the 'Tauntan' in order to visit the sites across America where famous rock artists have died. Throughout his road-trip, he also writes about the three women who have made him who he is, and who have all also broken his heart. He visits the spot that was the club in Rhode Island that burnt down during the Great White performance and does cocaine with some locals, he gets caught in a rain-storm in Georgia and exclaims, "it's pouring so hard I can't see the lines on the highway. If rain is God crying, I think God is drunk and his girlfriend just slept with Zeus." He has brought 600 CDs on the road with him and has a story or a meaning behind each song he listens to. Along with the quirks that happen on the way of his trip, his run-in with family and old friends, and his depiction of drugs and his emotions, this is a must-read book! Chuck is also the author of Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, the first book of his that I read which drew me into wanting to read this one. Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs is a collection of essays about different aspects of pop-culture - another amazing read! So overall, deff check out Chuck Klosterman!
